| Allies Launch Leadership Institute and Educational Speaker Series | ||||
|
The library has been
awarded an FY2006 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) federal
grant in the amount of $62,000.00 for A.L.L.I.E.S, A llies L
aunch L eadership I nstitute and E ducational S
peaker S eries. To empower individuals to take leadership roles
in order to keep the tradition of community betterment thriving and
to further develop the existing leadership in our business community,
the Library will team up with allies Chamber of Commerce and the Lewis
and Clark Community College (LCCC) to provide a mechanism to help
develop and direct individuals into leadership roles. This mechanism is
the development of a planning document for a Leadership Institute which
will be created by professional consultant, Dr. Robert Koepke. In
addition, the grant funding will permit the Allies to sponsor three
programs featuring three nationally known speakers. Each will speak on
the subject of leadership. The series will be an exciting addition to
the successful Chamber and LCCC Professional Education Series and
spotlights the library’s role and place in the community as an
educator. With this grant funding, the library will also purchase
additional equipment and business resources. |

| "Book Buddies" | ||||
| October, 2005 - Library receives $1000 Literacy Grant from Walmart. The funds will be put toward more books for the library. | ||||
| "Community Giving Grant" | ||||
| 2005 -Library receives "Community Giving Grant" Sponsored by Target Stores. With this grant the library will host two programs and will enhance the youth collection on cooking , arts and libraries. | ||||
| "We the People" | ||||
| 2005- Glen Carbon Library received books for "We the People" NEH Bookshelf Program. New books on the theme of "Freedom" were received and are available for check-out. The Library will sponsor three programs to promote this grant. | ||||
| "Teens Volunteering @ your library and in your community" | ||||
| Library receives grant for $7,378.00! "Teens Volunteering @ your library and in your community" is a unique program giving teens the opportunity to volunteer in their community through the library's partnering with other organizations that foster youth leadership. This program establishes both a Jr. Friend's group and Teen Advisory Board, allowing the library to meet the needs of our youth, but to truly make a difference in their lives. This would not have been possible without the federal LSTA grant funding from the Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State. | ||||
| "Budding Writers' Resources" | ||||
| The Library is thrilled to be able to more readily meet the needs of the Glen Carbon community with new materials in the literature collection. With these new materials, community members can now further research the publishing process on their way to becoming budding authors. This would not have been possible without the $2,802.00 federal LSTA grant funding from the Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State. | ||||
| "Bird Watching for Nestlings" | ||||
| June 28, 2003 - Library receives grant from ILLINOIS CONSERVATION FOUNDATION - Kits for teaching bird watching to kids will be available for checkout. Each kit will include 6 realistic sounding birds, books, coloring pages and craft ideas. | ||||
| "WE THE PEOPLE GRANT" | ||||
| The Glen Carbon Centennial Library received the "We the People Grant" from the American Library Association. The library was awarded a group of books honoring the theme of courage. These books are on display and available for checkout. June 2004 | ||||
| "AWARENESS AND EDUCATION" | ||||
| September 2003: The Glen Carbon Centennial Library received a grant from the Lupus Foundation of Illinois. The "Lupus Resource Collection" includes free educational materials, including bookmarks, pamphlets, flyers and the following books: Coping with Lupus by Robert Phillips, The Lupus Book by Daniel Wallace, New Hope for People with Lupus by Theresa Digeronimo, and Taking Charge of Lupus by Maureen Pratt. | ||||
| "GET CONNECTED @ YOUR LIBRARY" | ||||
| 2004 LSTA Grant awarded to the Glen Carbon Centennial Library! With the $2500.00 funding for "Get Connected @ your library" the library will purchase two new replacement computers for patrons use. This grant was funded by the Illinois State Library, a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using LSTA funding. | ||||
| "THINK GLOBALLY, ACT LOCALLY" | ||||
| A grant for $2,000 has been awarded to the Glen Carbon Centennial Library through a grant funded by the Illinois Conservation Foundation. The funding will be used to purchase adult & children's fiction and non-fiction matter on the subject of Ecology and other related topics. The library will also provide programs to educate the public on what they can do in their own back yards to make a difference in our community. Wild flower seed and/or prairie grass will be purchased and planted on the Ronald J. Foster trail. | ||||
| HOMEBOUND DELIVERY | ||||
| A grant for $11,656.00 has been awarded to the Glen Carbon Centennial Library through a grant funded by the Office of the Secretary of State. The Library will provide delivery services to individuals who are unable to access the library either temporarily or permanently for a variety of reasons. These include delivery services to the homebound elderly, families with infants up to six weeks old, individuals unable to leave the home due to temporary or permanent illness, and delivery service to two local nursing homes. | DEVELOPING MINDS | ||||
| A grant for $500 has been awarded to the Glen Carbon Centennial Library through a grant funded by All Kinds of Minds. The funding will be used to purchase the Developing Minds Multi-Media Library. The Developing Minds Matching Grant is made possible through generous funding from the Louis and Anne Abrons Foundation, in partnership with WGBH Boston Video. The Developing Minds Multi-Media library is an essential resource for the community of professionals who work with children on learning issues, as well as for parents and students. | LIBRARY MASCOT | ||||
| The Glen Carbon Centennial Library has been awarded an Illinois State Library grant for $2,550.00 to develop a Library Mascot. The Bookworm will be designed by Finale Costumes of St. Louis. Finale has created famous mascot costumes, including, the Energizer Bunny and the Cardinal’s Fredbird. The mascot will attend community events to promote the library and its services including; the Halloween Parade; Library Trivia Night; Glen Fest; Goshen Market; Story time and Summer Reading events at the Library. The Bookworm will also assist with the grand opening of the new Library facility in 2004! | ||||
| INVESTING IN LIBRARIANSHIP | ||||
| The Glen Carbon Centennial Library and the Edwardsville Public Library received an LSTA 2003 (Library Services and Technology Act) grant for $2395.00 to jointly sponsor a Staff Development day. Fred Schlipf, Urbana Free Library Director, will be the keynote speaker. Susan Lucco, Lewis and Clark Library System Director, will explain the responsibilities of library systems in Illinois. Glen Carbon Police Chief, Dave Bradford will discuss public building safety. Staff members from both libraries will come together to learn about current library issues, library systems, library safety, and to host informational talk tables to share ideas and success stories. A professionally produced videotape of the speakers will be developed and made available through interlibrary loan. | ||||
| LEAPFROG SCHOOLHOUSE MATCHING GRANT | ||||
| The Glen Carbon Library was the recipient of the LeapFrog SchoolHouse's Matching Grant. This grant along with matching funds from Target and the Friends of the Library allowed the Childrens Librarian to purchase $1000 worth of LeapHouse products which included: Leap Pads, Quantum Pads, Back Packs, Carrying Cases and many Leap Pad story books/lessons for life. | ||||
| "TEEN CHALLENGE" | ||||
| The Glen Carbon Centennial Library received an LSTA 2003 (Library Services and Technology Act) grant for $1,640 to develop "Teen Challenge: Mind, Body, and Spirit. This Grant will allow the Childrens Librarian to purchase Youth Books for Teens, hire local competitive Speaker for Program, rent an indoor Climbing Wall, and to create an original poetry and short story web page link for teens. | ||||
