GLEN CARBON LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
February 15, 2012

The February 2012 monthly meeting of the Glen Carbon Centennial Library Board was held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Glen Carbon Library.
Library Board President Kathy Dortch called the meeting to order at 7:09 PM.

Roll Call:
Kathy Dortch - present, Susan Mendelssohn - present, Sue Caban - present, Lisa Novak - present, Gary True - present, Dave Jobe - absent
Anne Hughes, Glen Carbon Library Director - present

Karen Romani was sworn in as a new library trustee by Board President Kathy Dortch.
Ms. Romani fills the vacancy left by trustee Ben Beyers.

Accept January 2012 Library Board Meeting minutes:

Sue Caban moves to accept the minutes for January 2012. Lisa Novak seconds the motion. The motion passes unanimously.

Communications:

The Library received a letter from the Secretary of State, Jesse White, awarding the Glen Carbon Centennial Library an Illinois Public Library Per Capita Grant in the amount of $13,263.82. These funds must be obligated and expended by June 30, 2013.

Director’s Report - Anne Hughes:

A description of the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, “Journey Stories,” arriving at the Glen Carbon Library in August 2012 was given to library board members.

Director Hughes showed the trustees “New Book Alerts,” a new online feature on the library’s website that allows patrons to view new materials received by the library. Patrons may view the new arrivals online or sign up to receive email alerts.

Library Director Hughes thanked board members who attended the Ladies Night Out hosted by the Friends of the Library. This fundraiser was very successful, and the board thanks all those involved that helped organized it.

The library board approved speaker expenses to host a Trustee workshop at the library in April. To defray costs a nominal charge of $5.00 will be charged to other library’s that attend the workshop.

Adult Programs and the Summer Reading Program were discussed. Downloadable eBook checkouts in January increased by 34% from the previous month. Circulation Manager, Ryan Johnson continues to offer one-on-one training for Ereaders and the library’s eBook database, Library2Go.

Glen Carbon Library bills for January, 2012:

Gary True moves to pay the bills in the amount of $25,437.95 for January 2012 for the Glen Carbon Library. Lisa Novak seconds the motion.

Finance Committee - Gary True:

Mr. True suggests an appointment be made with Village Administrator to discuss the Library’s allocation of Property & Casualty insurance. Library Director Hughes will arrange a meeting.

FY12/13 Operating Budget draft discussed. The following changes were made:
Small Equipment line item increased to $4,300.
Furniture line item increased to $6,500.
Reserve increased to $28,086.00

Gary True motions to accept the 2012-13 Library Budget in the amount of
$650,338.00. Lisa Novak seconds.

Susan Mendelsohn states that there is approximately 4 months and 2 weeks in the Reserve fund.

Susan Mendelsohn recommends updating the FY12/13 Revenue budget to reflect the actual Per Capita grant award based on letter received today from Secretary of State.

Building Committee - Dave Jobe: No report.

Susan Mendelsohn presents the FY12/13 Personnel budget. The budget and salary comparison chart are discussed.

Susan Mendelsohn makes a motion to approve the FY 12/13 Personnel Budget in the amount of $405,587.00. Gary True seconds.

The motion passes unanimously.

Quotes for lighting for the library’s paperback area and a coffee cart are discussed. It is suggested that a decision be made after reviewing February 2012 financials. These items will be added to the March 2012 Agenda for consideration.
