LIBRARY BOARD OCTOBER MEETING
November 2, 2011
The October 2011 meeting of the Glen Carbon Library Board was called to order by Library Board President Kathy Dortch at 7:00 PM.
Roll Call:

Adjust/Correct Glen Carbon Library Board meeting minutes from September 2011:
On page 1, change appointed to elected.
The Board unanimously elected Susan Mendelsohn as the new Glen Carbon Library Board Vice-President.
On page 2, after the roll call to pay the Glen Carbon Library bills for August 2011, the following line will be added.
The motion passes unanimously.
There was also an extra “s” on Susan Mendelsohn’s name in the above mentioned roll call.
On page 3, remove individual’s name and replace with “a candidate”.
Lisa Novak motions to accept the corrected minutes for September 20011, Susan Mendelsohn seconds, the motion passes unanimously.
Recognition of Janet McAllister and Susan Kesler on their 15th anniversary at the Glen Carbon Library:
The Glen Carbon Library Board recognized Library employees Janet McAllister and Susan Kesler for their 15 years of employment with the Glen Carbon Library. Library Director Anne Hughes presented each with plaques and certificates on their accomplishment. Janet and Susan were also presented with a cake that was enjoyed by Janet, Susan, Susan’s husband, the Library Board and Glen Carbon Library cataloger Joyce Bringenberg and her husband.
Glen Carbon Library Director Anne Hughes also recognized Janet McAllister for receiving the 2011 ILA Excellence in Marketing and Public Relations Competition, 1st place in the under One Million Dollar Budget for best Branding Initiative for her “Transform U” campaign.
Communications:
The Glen Carbon Library received a thank you card from the Maryville Library for hosting the Maryville Library as they plan a new library in Maryville.
The Glen Carbon Library’s Magi Henderson received thank you cards and note from the Kindergartners at Glen Carbon School after their field trip to the library.
There was an article in the “Edwardsville Intelligencer” about Pioneer Day @ the Library. Kindergartners, parents, and teachers from Glen Carbon Elementary schools visited the library and Yanda Log Cabin on October 12th. They learned about Glen Carbon history, square dancing and made Native American crafts.

Director’s Report - Anne Hughes:
The Junior Service Club made a $300 donation to the Glen Carbon Library for the purchase of Ereaders, which will be available for checkout. The Library Board and staff thank the club for this generous donation.
Anne Hughes attended the recent ILA (Illinois Library Association) conference. She shared information learned at Legal Trends for Library Directors workshop. Library Trustees are now required to attend Open Meetings Act online training available at the Illinois Attorney General website. Trustees will provide a certificate of completion to be kept on file at the library. The Assistant Director and Youth Services Director provided written ILA reports to the board.
The Per capita grant has been received in the amount of $12,074.00.
Anne Hughes has been interviewing potential volunteers for the Glen Carbon Library and plans to implement the Volunteer program in November. Volunteer duties include shelving, computer/tech assistance, and assisting with the Homebound Delivery program.
Magi Henderson, Youth Services Director, received a $2,000 award from Wal-Mart to be used to purchase materials for the collection.
Treasurer’s Report - Gary True:
The September bills for the Glen Carbon Library were $31,301.20. Sue Caban motions to approve the bills for September for the Glen Carbon Library. Dave Jobe seconds the motion.

Glen Carbon Library Board member Gary True met with Glen Carbon Mayor Rob Jackstadt to discuss the Glen Carbon Library considering Library District status. The Mayor offered any help needed from his office concerning becoming a Library district.
Unfinished Business:
Sick Leave Policy Revision
Gary True motions to approve the revised Sick Leave Policy. Lisa Novak seconds the motion. The motion passes unanimously.
New Business:
Tax Levy Ordinance
Gary True motions to pass the Tax Levy Resolution #2011-1, Susan Mendelsohn seconds.

Vacation Leave revision will be tabled until the November 2011 Glen Carbon Library Board meeting.
The date for the next Glen Carbon Library Board meeting is Wednesday, November 16, 2011.
