Board Meeting

The Glen Carbon Centennial Library Board held its September 2010 meeting on September 27th at the Library.
Call to Oder:
Vice President Susan Mendelsohn called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm.
Board Member Role Call:
Present: Susan Mendelsohn, Ben Beyers, Lealia Williams, Gary True, Dave Jobe
Not in Attendance: President Kathy Dortch, Lisa Nowak
Library Director Anne Hughes - Not in Attendance (at Illinois Library Association Conference in Chicago).
Accept or correct Minutes:
The Minutes from the August 2010 board meeting were reviewed and accepted. Ben Beyers moved to approve the minutes, Lealia Williams seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Communications:
1) The "Edwardsville Intelligencer" ran an article on the Glen Carbon Centennial Library welcoming the "Tens Sisters" author, 25 Library patrons attended.
2) Upcoming events: Ed-Glen Chamber "Fall Festival", October 1st through 3rd. Internationally known story performer Bobby Norfolk will be appearing at the Glen Carbon Library on October 2nd from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Director's Report:
Per capita Grant requirements need to be in place. We have been informed by Lewis & Clark Library System that monies for this are being delayed until December.
Friends of the Library paid bills to R.P. Lumber ($156.66) and Brandon Industries ($705.00) for the Best Small Library in America sign.
Friends of the Library Book Sale will be on Saturday, October 16th, 2010, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and Sunday, October 17th, 2010 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Glen Carbon American Legion Hall.
Youth Services news:
September 1st - 65 children at Glen Carbon Elementary School received Summer Reading Awards and a visit from Norm the therapy dog. The Youth services staff also presented a pirate puppet show.
September 9th - Youth Services visited Goshen Elementary School. 450 students and staff members learned about the Library's World Book Online for Kids and Tumblebooks databases.
September 13th - 15th - Children's Storytime: 63 children participated and took part in Monster Math and counting in American Sign Language.
September 16th - 520 Students and Staff at Albert Cassens Elementary School were visited by the Glen Carbon Library Youth Services staff to recognize Summer Reading participants.
September 22nd - 60 students from Liberty Middle School were introduced to Library Services, including databases, the library catalogue and the Lewis & Clark lending system.
Treasurer's Report:
Vice President and member of the Finance Committee Susan Mendelsohn reports that all financials are in order and the budget is balanced.
Susan Mendelsohn then motions that bills in the amount of $36,687.13 for the month of August, 2010 be accepted.
Lealia Williams seconded the motion.

Finance Committee:
Gary, Susan and Linda held a Finance Committee meeting to discuss schedules for next year, Property Tax allotment/pool for the Glen Carbon Library. The first part of January, 2011 will give us a better idea of our operating budget. The committee also laid out the ground work for next year.
Building Committee:
Dave Jobe, Building Committee Chair will check in to landscaping around the new Best Small Library in America sign.
Personnel Committee: Nothing to report.
Unfinished Business: Nothing to report.
New Business:
a) Book Donation from the Glen/Ed Ministerial Alliance
